Work from home | Online Business Ideas
Many people have been saying good-bye to the long commute to work since before the pandemic. With ever-evolving technologies such as Skype, FaceTime and Slack, Zoom and Google Hangouts, authenticator and cloud computing, along with texting and email, it's no longer necessary that you work in an office. Many types of work can be done from home, even better.
Remote work can be very appealing to employees. However, employers would not recognize the advantages from their desks. According to Harvard Business School research, companies that allow employees to work from anywhere can increase productivity, decrease turnover and reduce organizational costs. Another study found that telecommuters with complex jobs, who don't need a lot of social support or collaboration, can do better than those working in offices. A distributed workforce can also be more resilient in the face of natural or man-made disasters.
It doesn't matter if you work remotely only one day per week or if your schedule allows for the stimulation and social interaction that comes with being in a group setting. These are some tips and strategies to help you succeed as a remote worker.
Is there flexibility or a requirement that your employer has a 9-to-5 schedule? Is it allowed to use public Wi-Fi? What tech tools do you require, such as Zoom to videoconference, Slack for group chats or Microsoft Teams, Trello for project management, and Microsoft Teams or Slack for group chats? It is important that your employer outlines the rules and that you have access to the right equipment. This includes a laptop, network access, passcodes and instructions for remote login. Make sure you do some trial runs to find out if there are any issues that could hinder your work. You may require many of the same tools if you are working for yourself.
Are you ready to work from home?

While some people love the idea of working alone, others can feel a bit claustrophobic after spending a few weeks at their home, staring at the same project every hour for long hours. It can be lonely. Be ready for that, and try to schedule some connect-with-the-outside-world time, like a lunch date (even if you take it at 3 p.m.), a video chat with a friend, or an exercise class.
A less surprising work-at-home-friendly category is computers and IT, which is known for its progressive approach to virtual offices. Red Hat, Salesforce and SAP offer job opportunities in high-tech sales. Sales is one of the original flexible-time jobs. Tech companies also seek remote workers for other positions such as project manager, web designer, or software developer.
